Bog and Turf   From the Bogs of Ireland many exciting finds have been unearthed.  Some of the oldest bogs date back 10,000 years, decomposing into what they are today.  Bogwood (yew, pine and oak) is a rare timber which is excavated from deep underground.  The wood varies in age, usually ranging between 2,000 and 6,000 years old and has been naturally preserved throughout this time.    David Patton:  Bog Wood Sculptures  David was first introduced to Bog Wood Sculpting by renowned Belfast Sculptors George Osborne and Eamon Maquire.  The mystical properties and almost supernatural qualities of the wood caught his imagination and he has been carving ever since.  Much of David's work is inspired by Ireland's rich traditions of folklore and mythology.  His unique sculpture make ideal presentation pieces and gift items.  It is extremely difficult to carve softness into the female features but David has succeeded in doing so even in the incredibly hard bogwood pine and oak.  His Goddess carvings are captivating.  The Druids and Spirals take you back to the ancient times.   Goddess made of Bogwood Pine and set on Bogwood Oak.
